Overview
Docker, Inc is a software company whose container tools changed how software is shipped, and which now focuses on how AI applications and agents are built, run and governed. Containers package an application with its dependencies so it runs the same way on a laptop, a CI pipeline or a cloud server, and that portability made them a standard unit of modern software delivery. The company works with development teams and enterprises, aiming to simplify AI-native development through integrated tooling, built-in governance and security at every stage.
Its products include Docker Desktop, which brings containers and the full development loop into one application for Mac, Windows and Linux. Alongside it, Docker Sandboxes uses microVM isolation for each agent session, locally or in the cloud, with network and filesystem access restricted at the runtime. Docker AI Governance provides a single console for sandbox and MCP policy with identity-bound audit logs, while Docker Hardened Images offers minimal, signed, continuously patched images and MCP servers built to SLSA Level 3. Taken together, these products extend the isolation model of containers to autonomous AI agents, which matters to security and compliance teams that need to let agents execute code without losing an audit trail.
The company reports that more than 20 million developers use Docker, that Docker Hub serves over 20 billion pulls a month, and that 91% of the Fortune 100 run on Docker. It builds on OCI-compliant, platform-independent open standards, so customers can keep existing images, registries and CI pipelines rather than migrating to a new ecosystem, since the OCI specifications are the shared industry format for container images and runtimes. Internally, Docker describes a set of virtues, including developer obsession, humble confidence, bias for considered action, open collaboration and being outcome driven.
