Overview

Stripe is a technology company that builds programmable financial services and infrastructure, with headquarters in San Francisco and Dublin. It describes its focus as improving the conditions for economic growth, with a stated aim of increasing the GDP of the internet. The company works in online payment processing, where providers handle the movement of money between buyers, merchants and banks so that businesses do not have to build that plumbing themselves.

Its products include Payments, Terminal, Connect, Radar, Stripe Sigma, Stripe Billing and Issuing, alongside tools for in-person payments, fraud prevention and compliance. These tools are designed to work individually or together and support more than 135 currencies and payment methods. This modular structure lets a business start with basic card acceptance and add billing, risk or embedded finance features as it grows. Integration options range from APIs, SDKs and an MCP server to no-code tools in the Stripe Dashboard, and Stripe Atlas helps founders incorporate a company and start accepting payments.

More than 5 million businesses, from large enterprises to startups, use Stripe to accept payments and grow their revenue. Payments volume on the platform reached US$1.9tn in 2025, and the company puts its annual processing at around 1.7% of global GDP. Because its revenue is tied to transaction volume, the company's commercial interests track the growth of its customers, a point it cites when explaining its reinvestment in technology.

Stripe also offers professional services, certified consulting partners and tiered support plans, and it publishes work on economic and technological progress through Stripe Press and Works in Progress. Publishing of this kind is uncommon among payments providers and fits the company's broader interest in the conditions for economic growth.
