Overview

(NASDAQ: PYPL · $56.05 ▲ 0.9%) PayPal is a digital payments company that aims to make moving money fast, easy and more enjoyable for people and businesses around the world. Millions of consumers and merchants use its services every day, and the company frames its mission as unlocking opportunities in people's everyday lives. PayPal sits in the online payments category, where a provider acts between buyers, sellers and banks so that a merchant can accept money without building its own payment processing.

For merchants, the company packages its tools as PayPal Open, a single platform for getting paid, growing and running a business. Through it, businesses can accept payments from more than 200 markets in over 130 currencies and reach up to 400 million active accounts worldwide. The toolset includes online payments, invoicing, payment links and buttons, no-code payment options, installment payments, package tracking, payouts to multiple recipients, a seller protection policy, reporting tools, payment optimization and risk management. Bundling payment acceptance, fraud controls and reporting under one provider is common in the category, as it spares merchants from stitching together separate vendors for each function.

PayPal offers versions of the platform for enterprises, small businesses and solopreneurs, and gives developers APIs, credentials and product demos. Its Thailand site is presented in Thai and gives businesses a local phone number for reaching account specialists. In the United States, the company holds NMLS registration number 910457, an identifier used for licensed money transmitters and other regulated financial service providers. PayPal describes itself as an equal opportunity employer that welcomes diversity and offers benefits meant to support staff both at work and outside it.
