Overview
(NASDAQ: ZM · $97.94 ▲ 0.2%) Zoom is a communications software company that offers what it calls an AI-first work platform for meetings, chat, telephony, events and customer engagement. The company started with the aim of making video communications frictionless and secure, and has since broadened into a wider collaboration suite. This places it in the unified communications as a service (UCaaS) category, where organisations replace separate phone, video and messaging systems with a single cloud subscription.
Its product lines include Meetings, Team Chat, Phone, Webinars, Events, Rooms, Contact Center, Virtual Agent and AI Companion, alongside newer AI tools such as the My Notes note taker and ZoomMate, and the Workvivo employee engagement product. The platform is organised around use cases including collaboration, customer support, marketing, sales and employee engagement, with built-in AI that summarises meetings and automates follow-up tasks. Bundling these tools lets a buyer extend from internal meetings to customer-facing contact centre and sales workflows without adding separate vendors.
Zoom serves a broad range of customers and settings, from conference rooms and classrooms to doctor's offices, financial institutions, government agencies, global brands and small businesses, and its published customer stories feature Major League Baseball, Capital One, Cricut and Flex. Founded in 2011, the company made Zoom Meetings publicly available in 2013, added Phone in 2018 and Contact Center in 2022, and changed its name to Zoom Communications in 2024 to reflect a focus beyond video conferencing. The company names Care as its core value, extending to its community, customers, company and teammates as well as employees themselves, and describes its staff, known as Zoomies, as problem-solvers and self-starters.
