Overview
HashiCorp is an IBM company that makes software for automating and securing infrastructure across multi-cloud and hybrid environments. Its products help organizations provision, secure, connect and run business-critical applications, and come together in an integrated platform the company calls The Infrastructure Cloud. This places HashiCorp in the infrastructure-as-code and cloud operations category, where teams replace manual configuration with versioned, repeatable definitions.
Infrastructure Lifecycle Management covers Terraform for provisioning, Packer for image management, Nomad for workload orchestration and Waypoint as a developer platform, while Security Lifecycle Management includes Vault for secrets management, Boundary for secure access and Consul for service networking. The products are built on projects with freely available source code and are offered as managed SaaS through the HashiCorp Cloud Platform, as self-hosted enterprise editions or as community source-available versions. Pairing provisioning tools with identity and secrets tools lets one vendor cover both how infrastructure is built and who or what may access it.
Customers range from well-known brands and large enterprises to start-ups, and they use HashiCorp's software to run the applications behind essential services, communications tools and entertainment platforms worldwide. HashiCorp counts more than 930 partners, over 4,000 integrations and more than 500 systems integrators, and offers product certifications for engineers, architects and operators. Such an ecosystem matters to buyers, since infrastructure tooling must work with many cloud providers and existing systems.
HashiCorp was founded in 2012, reported more than 2,200 employees and over half a billion software downloads in FY24, and has more than 50,000 user group members. Its working practices, including remote and distributed teams and a high level of transparency, are adapted from its roots in open source software. Such practices are common among companies with open source origins, where contributors have long collaborated in public across locations.
