Overview
(NYSE: ESTC · $95.52 ▼ 2.8%) Elastic is a software company that describes itself as the Search AI Company, focused on helping people find answers in real time using all their data, at scale. Its solutions for search, observability and security are built on the Elastic Search AI Platform, which rests on the open Elasticsearch foundation. Search engines of this kind index large volumes of structured and unstructured data for fast querying, and the same data layer can also serve log analysis, monitoring and threat detection.
For search, the company offers tools for building AI and machine learning enabled applications, including a vector database with hybrid retrieval, native and third-party models, and managed GPU inference. Its observability products unify application and infrastructure visibility across logs and metrics, while its security offering applies AI-driven analytics to detecting, investigating and responding to threats. Elastic Agent Builder extends the platform to agentic AI, letting users build context-driven AI agents on their own data, in line with the company's view that AI is only as good as the context it is given. Customers can run Elasticsearch and Kibana locally, deploy on-premises, or use a fully managed cloud service on AWS, GCP or Azure, a range that suits both developers testing ideas and enterprises with strict hosting requirements.
The platform is used by thousands of companies, including more than 50% of the Fortune 500 and over 75% of the Fortune 100. Elastic operates as a distributed company with people across the globe, embraces open source, and guides its work through a set of ideas it calls its Source Code rather than a corporate values statement. This open source heritage is typical of infrastructure software vendors whose developer communities often shape adoption inside large organisations.
