Overview
American Honda Motor Co., Inc. is the U.S. arm of Japan's Honda Motor Company, offering Honda and Acura automobiles and a wide range of other products. These include motorcycles, ATVs, scooters, side-by-sides, outboard motors, general-purpose engines, generators, mowers and other power equipment, and HondaJet aircraft, while racing runs through HRC US. Most automakers concentrate on cars and light trucks, leaving marine engines, lawn equipment and business aviation largely to specialist manufacturers. The company's guiding philosophy is The Power of Dreams, and it says its products reflect a belief that the purpose of technology is to help people.
Its Honda automobile lineup includes the CR-V, Ridgeline, Odyssey and Passport, and the company highlights its hybrids and its fuel efficiency as a full-line automaker. It has set goals to further cut CO2 emissions from its products by 50 percent by 2050 and to reach zero vehicle collisions starting with model year 2040 vehicles, reflecting a stated commitment to society and the planet. Long-range targets of this kind have become common across the auto industry as emissions rules tighten and safety expectations rise.
Honda was founded in 1948 in Hamamatsu, Japan, and opened its first U.S. storefront in Los Angeles in 1959 with eight associates. The company says it was the first automaker to meet Clean Air Act standards in the 1970s and that its later low-emissions vehicle technology led California to adopt stricter emissions regulations. It describes itself as building an inclusive culture in which associates from a variety of backgrounds help create a cleaner, safer and more exciting mobile world. Its recruiting runs under the theme Bring the Future, with career opportunities ranging from automotive to robotics.
