Overview
Our Mission
Aloha United Way brings resources, organizations and people together to advance the health, education and financial stability of every person in our community.
Our Roots
Aloha United Way was originally established by Frank C. Atherton as the United Welfare Fund, under the Chamber of Commerce, in 1919 to create a more efficient way of distributing charitable giving. As Hawaii has changed and evolved over the last 100 years, so has our mission and work.

- Economic resilience across our islands depends on a skilled, adaptable workforce.
For households in the ALICE threshold, access to specialized job training and industry certifications helps create opportunities for higher paying careers and greater financial stability. Through the AUW 211 Statewide Helpline and our partner network, we connect job seekers directly with funded workforce development programs, like: - Hawaiian Trades Academy: Hands-on trade training and industry certifications, including CDL preparation and carpentry. - Goodwill Hawaii: No-cost career coaching, digital literacy, and paid on-the-job training for individuals navigating employment barriers. - Na Lima Hana: Employer connections, interview prep, and integrated financial literacy.
- Calling all Oʻahu nonprofits!
Aloha United Way will soon open a limited application window for local nonprofit organizations interested in becoming an official AUW Partner Agency. This opportunity is for organizations that are not current Partner Agencies and are interested in participating in the 2027 Workplace Giving Campaign.
