Overview
(NASDAQ: TMUS · $151.87 ▲ 2.2%) T-Mobile US is a U.S. wireless carrier that sells mobile phone service, devices and home internet, operating through its subsidiaries and flagship brands T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile and Mint Mobile. The company describes itself as the Un-carrier, a label that reflects its positioning against conventional carrier practices, and it runs a 5G Advanced network with nationwide standalone 5G that supports capabilities such as network slicing and multi-carrier aggregation. Operating several brands lets a carrier reach different price segments, from postpaid plans to prepaid and lower-cost offerings, on a single network.
Its consumer plan lineup includes Experience Beyond, Experience More and Essentials tiers, with monthly bill credits used to discount phones and some plans bundling streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu. Beyond mobile lines, T-Mobile offers 5G Home Internet, business services, a T-Satellite texting service for areas without towers, the Scam Shield call and text filtering tool, and data and texting in more than 215 countries and destinations. This mix shows how wireless carriers increasingly use their networks to compete in fixed broadband and value-added services, an expansion the company frames as building innovation in wireless and beyond, including the mobile web and the Internet of Things.
The company emphasises its people and a culture of challenging the status quo and fueling competition, and it describes its approach as focused on customers and employees. Its workforce spans retail stores, including Signature Stores, as well as customer care sites such as one in Meridian, Idaho, network operations and corporate functions. A stretch assignment program lets employees take on work in other parts of the business. For a large consumer carrier, internal mobility of this kind is a common way to move frontline staff into marketing, operations and management roles.
