Overview

Nous Research is an AI research lab creating world-class open source AI. We are best known for Hermes Agent, our open-source AI agent harness, alongside the Hermes series of general-purpose, human-aligned models.

Hermes Agent is free to use and released under the MIT license, with a desktop app for macOS and Windows and a terminal installation for Linux. The agent connects to platforms such as Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal and email, and keeps persistent memory of conversations, projects and skills across sessions. Its features include natural-language task scheduling, isolated subagents, web search and browser automation, and sandboxed execution across five backends, including Docker, SSH and Modal.

Through Nous Portal, the company offers a free tier and paid monthly plans that include credits for use in Hermes Agent, access to more than 200 models and hosted tool usage. Users can connect their own model provider instead, and cloud hosting is optional, with hosted agents managed in Nous Portal.
