Overview

Alpaca is a US-headquartered, self-clearing broker-dealer and a global leader in brokerage infrastructure APIs providing access to stocks, ETFs, options, fixed income, and crypto. Alpaca delivers embeddable finance solutions for tokenization, fully paid securities lending, high-yield cash, 24/5 trading, Shariah-compliant investing, and more. Its Broker API gives fintechs and institutions end-to-end brokerage infrastructure for building investing applications, while its Trading API lets programmatic traders, retail investors, hedge funds and prop firms automate trading strategies across stocks, options and crypto. Developers can use SDKs in Python, .NET/C#, Go and Node, backtest strategies in a paper trading environment, and connect platforms such as TradingView through OAuth.

The company started in 2015 as a database and machine learning company that served enterprise financial institutions and trading companies, and it built MarketStore, an open-source database for financial time-series data. Its broker-dealer subsidiary, Alpaca Clearing, is a member of FINRA, SIPC, DTCC, OCC and FICC, and the group also holds registrations in the Bahamas and a securities license in Japan. Alpaca is headquartered in California and operates as a fully remote company with more than 250 employees in 25 countries.

Today, Alpaca powers over 9 million brokerage accounts across hundreds of fintechs and institutions in 40+ countries, with over $320M in funding from top investors including Drive Capital, Portage Ventures, Spark Capital, Tribe Capital, Social Leverage, Derayah Financial, Horizons Ventures, Unbound, SBI Group, Elefund, and Y Combinator.
