Wood treatment involves forcing preservatives into timber under pressure so that it resists rot and insects, which is why treated wood remains common for poles, ties and pilings that stay exposed to soil, water and weather for decades. Its offering is grouped into railway ties, utility poles, residential lumber and industrial products. For electrical utilities across the continent, Stella-Jones supplies treated wood and steel utility poles as well as steel lattice towers, with an emphasis on supply and emergency response from coast to coast. Class 1, short line and commercial railroad operators buy its treated wood railway ties and timbers, which the company delivers anywhere on the continent. Its industrial products include timbers for railway bridges, crossings and construction, marine and foundation pilings, and coal tar-based products, along with specialized treatments for maritime and rail related applications.
