Overview
Ramp is a financial operations company, founded in 2019, that offers an all-in-one platform designed to save businesses time and money. Its software combines corporate cards, expense management, bill payments, accounting automation, procurement, travel and treasury, and connects to more than 200 other business tools. This places the company in the spend management category, where finance teams try to replace separate card, reimbursement and payables systems with a single record of company spending.
Ramp has built AI agents into the platform, including policy agents, and offers a product called Stack, which it presents as an AI operating system for finance teams. The platform can issue cards in more than 30 currencies, reimburse employees in local currencies and assign card permissions and limits automatically by role, location or department. In this category, automating receipt collection and transaction coding targets the manual work that typically slows the month-end close for controllers and finance teams.
Ramp reports more than 70,000 customers, from family-owned farms to space startups, and its customer stories include a city government, a public school network and a nonprofit. The company says customers have saved more than $12 billion and over 27 million hours, and that its platform supports more than 200 countries. It is backed by firms including Founders Fund, Thrive Capital, Sequoia and Stripe, as well as more than 100 angel investors.
Ramp lists values such as speed, ownership, working as one team and putting customers first, and it says it does not choose customers based on their ideology. Its staff includes people who previously worked at financial firms such as Affirm, Goldman Sachs and American Express and at technology companies such as Meta and Uber, a mix that reflects its position between banking and software.
