Overview
Renaissance traces its origins to 1986, when the company began as Advantage Learning Systems selling Accelerated Reader to schools from a family home. As a global leader in assessment, reading, and math solutions for pre-K–12 schools and districts, Renaissance is committed to providing educators with insights and resources to accelerate growth and help all students build a strong foundation for success. Renaissance solutions are used in over one-third of US schools and in more than 100 countries worldwide. The company has more than 1,700 employees in the United States, Canada, China, the United Kingdom, and Australia, and it opened its first international office in the United Kingdom in 1999.
The Renaissance portfolio includes Star Assessments, for reliable, accurate insights into K–12 student learning; myIGDIs, for accurate assessment of early learning; myON, to increase students’ access to high-quality reading materials; Accelerated Reader, to support independent reading practice; Freckle, for teacher-led differentiated instruction; and Schoolzilla, to give educators actionable insights into trends in student attendance and achievement. Star Reading, a computer-adaptive assessment of reading achievement, was released in 1996 and was followed by Star Math, Star Early Literacy, Star Custom, and Star CBM. The company's offerings are organized around assessment, practice and instruction, and data insights, and the company describes its approach as keeping teachers at the center while applying AI to learning science. Customers include public school districts such as Union County Public Schools in North Carolina and Bibb County School District in Georgia, as well as the Diocese of Green Bay's Catholic schools.
