Overview

Professional Photographers of America (PPA) is the world's largest nonprofit association serving professional photographers. Founded in 1868, PPA helps photographers build stronger businesses, elevate their craft, protect their work, and connect with a community committed to excellence in professional photography. The association is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

PPA supports more than 35,000 members across 70+ countries with education, business resources, industry-leading events, professional development, and advocacy. Through programs such as certification, degrees, image competition, year-round workshops, Professional Photographer magazine, PhotoVision, and Imaging USA, PPA gives photographers the tools, training, and community they need to grow with confidence. Imaging USA is an annual conference and trade show, typically held each January in a major U.S. city, with classes from more than 90 speakers covering portrait, wedding, commercial, volume and creative photography, plus an Expo where vendors show cameras, software and services. PhotoVision offers thousands of videos on the art, craft and business of photography, free for members and available to others by paid subscription. Members can also connect through theLoop, a private social forum.

PPA also helps safeguard photographers' businesses through member benefits including equipment insurance, professional liability support, and the Indemnification Trust, while continuing to champion copyright protection, intellectual property rights, and photographer advocacy on Capitol Hill. Full and Full Plus memberships include up to $15,000 in PhotoCare equipment insurance coverage. Members agree to a Code of Ethics, which is enforced by a member-run Ethics Committee that investigates complaints and holds due process hearings.

Guided by our Board of Directors and powered by an incredible network of volunteers, committee members, and members, PPA is dedicated to helping photographers create sustainable, profitable businesses and thrive in a changing industry. Membership options cover professional, international, student and educator categories, with annual or monthly payment.
