ADM is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, and has about 44,000 employees serving customers across six continents. The company does not own farms; instead it buys crops such as corn, wheat, soybeans and sunflower from growers and moves them through a network of elevators, trucks, railcars, barges and ships. It operates 335 procurement sites and 325 production sites and moves about 140 million metric tons of agricultural products each year.

ADM's business areas cover human nutrition, animal nutrition, pet nutrition, industrial biosolutions, and transportation and risk mitigation services. Its offerings range from colors, flavors, probiotics, enzymes and supplements to biofuels and bio-based consumer and industrial products, and the company is also active in carbon capture and sequestration.
