Overview

Summit Spine & Joint Centers is a physician-led interventional pain management group that diagnoses and treats back, neck, joint and chronic pain using minimally invasive methods. The company was founded to provide patients with comprehensive, patient-focused treatment, with the objective of helping them regain and improve their quality of life while delivering compassionate care one patient at a time. Interventional pain management sits between primary care and open spine surgery, so patients are often referred to practices like this one after medication or physical therapy alone has not resolved their pain.

Its procedures include spinal cord stimulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, minimally invasive lumbar decompression, basivertebral nerve ablation, radiofrequency ablation, SI joint fusion, discectomy and kyphoplasty, alongside medication management and rehabilitation. Conditions treated range from sciatica, spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease to fibromyalgia, cancer-related pain and persistent pain after spine surgery. Spinal injections and implant procedures commonly rely on fluoroscopy, a form of real-time X-ray imaging, to guide instruments precisely, and many of the company's board-certified physicians have completed post-graduate and fellowship training in fluoroscopically guided spine interventions.

The company operates more than 20 ambulatory surgery centers and more than 50 clinics across Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina. In the Atlanta area, the company works alongside Georgia Interventional Pain Surgery Center. It aims to schedule new patients within 24 hours whenever possible. Its model centers on supporting physicians, offering them opportunities to grow, lead and take ownership in their practices and surgical centers. Ambulatory surgery centers allow outpatient procedures to be performed outside a hospital, and partial physician ownership of such centers is a common arrangement in specialty care.
