Overview
(NYSE: DIS · $108.49 ▲ 0.4%) The Walt Disney Company is a diversified international family entertainment and media enterprise that, together with its subsidiaries and affiliates, operates through three core business segments: Disney Entertainment, ESPN, and Disney Experiences. The company states its mission as entertaining, informing and inspiring people around the globe through storytelling, drawing on its brands, creative talent and technology. Its shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker DIS, which places it among the large publicly listed media groups whose businesses span content production, distribution and consumer-facing leisure.
Disney Entertainment holds the company's full portfolio of entertainment media and content businesses worldwide, including streaming. ESPN operates seven U.S. television networks, a direct-to-consumer sports offering in the ESPN app, ESPN.com and ESPN Audio, and outside the U.S. it reaches fans through 43 linear networks across 130 countries and territories, with live events also available on Disney+. Disney Experiences brings the company's stories, characters and franchises to life through theme parks and resorts, cruise and vacation experiences, and consumer products ranging from toys to apparel to books. This mix reflects a model common among large entertainment groups, in which characters and franchises developed for film and television can drive demand for theme parks, merchandise and streaming, letting a single intellectual property earn revenue across many channels.
Beyond its commercial operations, the company reports more than $264 million in total charitable giving in fiscal 2025 and more than 13 million employee volunteer hours since 1983. It has worked with Make-A-Wish since 1980, granting more than 175,000 wishes globally, and runs programs such as Disney Dreamers Academy and Disney Musicals in Schools. For a company built around family entertainment, programs aimed at children and schools align its philanthropy with the audiences its international business serves.
