Overview
Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute is a physician-owned hospital in the Kansas City area that is dedicated exclusively to orthopedics and describes itself as the only hospital of its kind in the city. The care team includes more than 35 board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons and interventional physiatrists, working with therapists, nurses and technologists on cases ranging from sports injuries and arthritis to workers' compensation injuries and sprains. Bringing imaging, surgery, inpatient stays and therapy under one hospital organization can reduce the handoffs between separate providers that patients often face on the way from diagnosis to recovery.
Staffing is a central part of the company's approach: it assigns one registered nurse for every two surgical patients, and all inpatient physical and occupational therapy sessions are conducted one-on-one. The hospital participates in most commercial insurance plans as well as Medicare, Kansas Medicaid and Tricare. Located near I-435 between Roe and State Line Road, it serves patients from Leawood, Overland Park, Lenexa, Lee's Summit and other parts of the Kansas City metro, a bi-state region spanning Kansas and Missouri.
