Overview
G&W Electric Co. is a manufacturer of power systems equipment for electrical distribution and transmission networks, with a history that dates to 1905. The company built its early reputation on the first disconnectable cable terminating device, introduced in the early 1900s, and its engineering firsts also include the first fully submersible switchgear and the first visible break solid dielectric switchgear. Its portfolio now extends beyond cable accessories to solid dielectric and SF6 insulated switchgear, solid dielectric insulated reclosers, system protection equipment and distribution automation solutions, alongside distribution and transmission cable accessories.
G&W Electric serves two broad markets: utilities modernizing distribution systems with reclosers, switchgear, sensing and automation, and commercial and industrial facilities that need medium-voltage equipment to support uptime at mission-critical sites. Its application work covers sub-transmission reliability, fire mitigation, the grid impact of distributed energy resources, arc flash and fault limiting protection, and replacement of air insulated switchgear. Reclosers and automated switchgear matter to these buyers because they isolate faults quickly and restore service automatically after temporary faults, shortening outages where downtime is costly and limiting fault exposure where wildfire risk is high. An extensive global sales organization and customer response teams support these customers, and services span consultation, factory and site acceptance testing for distribution automation, commissioning, equipment inspection and onsite training.
The company's headquarters in Bolingbrook, Illinois, holds LEED Gold certification, and the plant there covers more than 371,000 square feet. G&W Electric pairs research and development with ISO 9001:2015 certified quality systems in manufacturing and design, has been ISO 9001 certified since 1993 and ISO 14001 certified since 2002, and partners with technology developers on smart grid automation. For utilities and facility operators, certified quality and environmental management systems and routine production testing are practical checks when buying equipment that typically stays in service for decades.
