AECOM was officially founded in 1990 as an independent company formed through the merger of five entities, many of whose predecessor firms trace their histories back more than 120 years. More than 50 companies have since joined the firm, and it became publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange in 2007.

In addition to its core sectors, the company serves markets including cities, healthcare and national governments, and its offerings also include architecture and environmental services.
